Oakmoss Essential Oil is extracted by volitile solvent extraction. The major chemical constituents are lichenol, being an ester of evernic acid. Oakmoss Essential Oil is an excellent fixative and blends well with Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Jasmin, Tuberose and Neroli. Commonly used to treat respiratory conditions.

Botanical Name: Evernia Prunastri

Origin: The lichens which produce this resinoid are found on oak and other trees, mostly around the Mediterranean.

Traces of E. Prunastri have been discovered in ancient egyptian tombs near Luxor and Deir El Bahari. Evidently the dried lichen (which does not grow in Egypt) was imported for use as a flavouring for bread.
