25th March at 13.10pm: Apologies but my health has gone backwards rapidly in the past few days. After a conversation with Eleonora, at this moment running Hermitage is too much for us. Therefore the countries have all been temporarily removed and no orders can be placed. Please note orders received upto the time of this message will all be dispatched by today. Earlier messages now deleted from the orange banner but note I hope by mid to late next week I can get involved again with the business and reopen the website to E.U countries. New product releases, I have written content for five new aromatics and the plan was, and still is, to get to ten, and release them all in one lot. This will happen across early April. At the sametime the lab is finished, we have set up and we will get staff employed. Written as my own objective this year for the business remains the same, that being to end the stop start and get Hermitage in a position whereby it continues to flourish with or without my daily involvement. Thank you, Adam : | PS - We will reply to emails we may receive upon our return.

Joseph Colbourne has this to say “A clear, watery liquid material, caryophyllene is softly spicy, woody, dry, and elegant. The isolate is that sparkle in the scent profiles of clove, pepper, and also many florals. Facets of cananga, cinnamon, calamus and copaiba can be detected by my nose. The dry down presents a pleasantly musty driftwood note. While there is an ostensibly tenacious open, the longevity is only about 3-4 hours, making this unmistakably a top note.
The true value of caryophyllene perhaps isn’t its scent alone but what it does in accenting and building florals and woods that may need more dimension and diffusion. Therefore, it would be an excellent way to open a fragrance.”
Extracted from clove bud essential oil.

Pleasant mild earthy-woody note, the isolate being much more interesting than straight caryophyllene, which I can hardly smell at all. The woody aspect recalls boisal, a woody-iris speciality from the 1960’s. A sizable chunk of caryophyllene went into Forest Q, a composition I presented on breakfast TV, which livened up the show considerably.

This material provokes a curious effect for me when evaluating it neat, my nose keeps on attempting to “smell around” the scent for phantom notes that ought to be there but are not actually present. I see what Joseph means when he says this is the sparkle in many different materials. A wonderful way to bring some life to perfumes that have become too dense or to take scents that are already diffusive and send them to the stratosphere.
