Ho Sho Essential Oil (HO LEAF)

Adam Michael has this to say “Ho sho essential oil also known as ho leaf shares the same botanical name as camphor and ravintsara however this almost colourless oil is steam distilled from the leaves and camphor is distilled from the wood. Camphor (white fraction) is regarded as the safer oil in aromatherapy as ho sho contains a small percentage of safrol.

The aroma of ho sho is rosewood sweet, corriander and fresh floral. Useful for treating aching muscles, soothing on the mind, almost having a gentle sedative action in the process. This material pairs beautifully with lavender, eucalyptus globulus and many more of the text book oils deemed essential in Aromatherapy.”

Arctander has this to say “Ho Leaf oil can be used in high percentages in a multitude of perfume types: as a modifier, blender, sweetner, floralizer, or individual odor. It blends perfectly with phenyl ethyl alcohol, cinnamic alcohol, amyl salicylate, citronellol, geraniol, ionones, hydroxycitronellal, cyclamen aldehyde, lavandin oil, etc. , and its very low cost broadens the fields for its use beyond measure. For the isolation of Linalool, for the production of linalyl esters, it is superior to any other natural starting material – and cheaper than any except lavndin oil. It performs exceptionally in soaps where it may very well replace linalool (from bois de rose oil).”
