Adam Michael has this to say “If you enjoy the smell of sandalwood this is a very cost effective way to enjoy a somewhat similar aroma at a fraction of the price. Sandalwood West Indies also better known as amyris is the naturally occurring essential oil from the wood of the amyris tree. The gloopy material is recovered through the physical separation process of partial pressure steam distillation. No additives, solvents or chemicals are used at any point of the recovery process.”
Arctander has this to say “Amyris Oil is a viscous liquid of pale yellow, yellow or brownish-yellow color. Its odor is faintly woody, not dry. It has a slightly oily-sweet, balsamic note, and occasionally displays a faintly peppery topnote, reminiscent of guaiacwood or cubeb. The body-odor is very tenacious, but it rapidly loses the rich, complex odor, fading out in a very weak, woody balsamic note. The odor varies considerably, depending on the age of the oil and the age of the wood prior to distillation.
Amyris oil finds extensive application as a mild blender in numerous types of perfume, particularly in soap perfumes. It blends well with ionones, methylionones, lavandin oil, coumarin, oakmoss products, terpineol, citronella oils, sassafras, or ocotea oils, amylsalicytate, etc.”
Botanical Name: Amyris balsamifera
Origin: Haiti

I don’t think that amyris is graded in the same way that sandalwood, vetiver or frankincense are, there seems to be only 1 type of amyris that I’ve come across and this is as good as any if not better.

As a medicine woman who speaks with plants I use essential oils from Hermitageoils to make Healing Perfume, because they have extra ordinary qualities!!! I LOVE them all! The energy of Amyris oil invites man to reflect on his own values and choices. Amyris are helpful to people who want to go beyond the collective way of thinking and find their individual attitude to life.
