Animalic and musky aromatics are a particular group of materials characterised by warm, musky and animal-like notes. They are very often of animal origin, like civet, ambergris, hyrax, castoreum, but there are some specific plant-derived aromatics that also display similar musky warm facets and are therefore included in this group.
These include ambrette absolute, essential oil, and ambrettolide natural isolate that is derived from the latter. Animalic and musky materials generally showcase a good longevity and used in trace amounts they tend to improve the wearability of a perfume, adding depth and cosiness to the composition.
