Adam Michael has this to say “Mentha piperita is a hybrid of water mint (Mentha aquatica) and spearmint (Mentha spicata). This hybrid peppermint grows all around the world and provides us with peppermint oils with subtle to extreme varying peppermint nuances. In some instances the material will be known as white peppermint as the stems and leaves are gloriously rich green in colour. This material offered by Hermitage is from Uttar Pradesh, India, which is between 3 and 4 hours north of Delhi in the foothills of Himalayas where you also find plenty of water. This essential oil is referred to as M x piperita black – due simply to the plant being much darker in appearance with reddish brown to nearly all brown leaves.”
The aroma is less invasive than American material and fresher, cleaner and crisper than the English material known as M x piperita black mitcham which is incredibly soft, gentle and delicate. This material is produced by steam distilling all aerial parts of the plant. The colour is light yellow and easily pourable. This is excellent material and highly recommended.
Botanical Name: Mentha piperita
Origin: India

Bought this because it was discounted – to be honest – and also you can never have enough of mint 🙂 I am so glad I did. It’s just the right amount of sweet, just the right amount of fresh, very uplifting and at the same time relaxing. In my mind it is a perfect union of meadow blossoming summer and icy clean winter.
