Joseph Colbourne has this to say “One of the most distinct scents I’ve experienced from a rhizome: nutty, orris-like, reminiscent of fermenting leaves, whiskey, nuances of ginger, yet also notably lactonic. The first five minutes on the mouillette has autumnal notes of petrichor, forest floor, and wine tannins. This dries into a creamier, rich, slightly smoky, boozy, very whiskey-like lactone scent. Two hours in the scent is very much akin to oakwood absolute, however much more tannic and lactonic. As it continues to dry in the next several hours, a mellow, woody whiskey lactone effect lingers, with accents of orris, tree nuts, amyris, sandalwood, cognac, and faint wine tannins. What a remarkably unique material! I could see this paired with oakwood absolute and cognac to create a prominent whiskey note or a mixed forest (pine/deciduous) floor ambience.”

Well, this is really a very interesting material if you think that it has so many layers that Joseph detects whiskey, nuances of ginger, nuts and orris – and yes if you deeply study this rhizome.
But listen listen my dear friends – it is really incredible how this root CO2 reproduces exactly a Russian Banya smell.
Smoky fireplace, dried oak or birch tree branches with leaves that are immersed into a water – it’s a unique aroma, and this Rhatany Root CO2 reminds me the smell of Russian Banya at my grandfathers countryside.
I used to go all alone (i was then really a little curious girl) into that small but cosy building jus next to the main family house were the smell of burned woods that heated the ambiance some hours ago and those wet, but already drying Birch leaves on the floor were giving an incredible pleasure to my nostrils, and I was inhaling so deeply as if i wanted to get all of that odor into myself … What a wonderful memories.
So now i have it all in one bottle of this Rhatany Root CO2.
The same happened to me when i tried Siberian Fir CO2 select extra it brought me back to my joyful childhood.
I will absolutely try to use this Unique and curious material in creation of a very special fragrance – Russian men will love it a lot i think ;D, ;D, ;D

The scent is floral and sweet and at the same time winey and somewhat mysterious. It is a pleasant and delicate fragrance. I suppose it will do well in a feminine perfume, , but it wouldn’t look out of place in a masculine perfume either.

Beautiful and balsamic, a touch of smoky resinous dust in the base but then it turns into a gourmand fig rich dessert with a hint of whiskey touch. so beautiful..
