Guggul Resin
Adam Michael has this to say “My first impressions smelling the resin are that whilst soft it has an aromatic and visual resemblance to the fibre rich breakfast bars you can find in the shops, bran like with oats and chocolate nuances, it is really nice stuff smelling neat. On the burner** though the aroma is more malt like, very sweet and myrrh balsamic with a hint of spice.
Due to the chemistry of this resin it is also said to have anti-inflammatory properties and reading material also suggests this resin is known in India by the names of bdellium and guggal and finds great use as an incense in religious ceremonies and as a fixative within perfumery.”
Botanical Name: Commiphora mukul
Origin: India
** At Hermitage Oils should you wish to burn the material neat we would recommend burning the material on an oil burner opposed to using charcoal disks. If you follow this recommendation we also advise placing a piece of foil in the well of your oil burner and then laying the resin on top. This prevents lots of mess and cleaning after use and by using an oil burner you get to enjoy much more of the aroma of the resin than when using charcoal disks.
