Japanese Rose Rugosa Otto

Adam Michael has this to say “First, similar to Saudi Taif, finding Japanese rose rugosa otto is one thing, but actually being able to put your hands on it is another thing entirely. This is only my second time I have a supply, and it’s the first time I release rugosa otto for sale publicly.

Aromatically, the opening provides an experience very comparable to smelling the living rugosa flowers in my garden – delivered in that fresh, breezy almost watery rose fashion, finished with homemade lemonade tonalities. The heart is pink rose themed, with rose-petal-powdery qualities, following on with gentle hits of peach juice. The base notes for me have a chalk through to Crayola esq character that I instantly associate with smelling living pink lotus flowers on my terrace during the summer. The deep dry down here is powdery sparkling bright rose with trace orris vibes and rose jam.

This is an outstanding rose heart note with impressive substantivity, thus a must for those building true-to-life rose accords. More generally this otto can be considered as a good floraliser of which can be utilised within accords that are woody, amber, fruity, citrus, spice, moss, Oriental , gourmand themed, and so on and so on. And although I have had this in my possession for a very brief time, so far I find this pairs beautifully with neroli, linden, elderflower, honey and bergamot aromatics.

Also, whether I smell rugosa flowers in my garden, or if I smell this otto, I always find a slightly rough nuance in the opening for the first seconds. Its not to take anything away from how beautiful this flower is, it is just something I have noticed over the years and would like to put this on record.

To sum up, this Japanese rose rugosa otto is incredibly hard to source, aromatically gorgeous, true to life and a must for fellow rose-enthusiasts.”
