Adam Michael has this to say “We sell the finest lemon essential oil from Sicily, the smell is so beautiful and contains none of the hazardous furo-coumarins which are found in the expressed material and responsible for photosensitisation. Lemon essential oil is cleansing and very refreshing. Highly astringent and antibacterial, very useful for relief of cold symptoms. Widely used in beauty care to tone and condition nails and cuticles and to treat oily skin types. Blended with tea tree, this is an effective way to clear any verruca, wart or corn. Once applied cover the infected area with a plaster, repeat process each day applying a clean plaster until the effected area has healed.”
Mark Evans has this to say “Citrus essential oils such as lemon can be extracted from the peel by cold pressing, like olive oil, or by steam distillation. The vast majority of lemon oil that you will find out in the market is cold expressed which has a lovely fresh, realistic, juicy lemon scent. This oil, however, is the distilled version. So how does it compare and why would you use the distilled oil over the expressed? To help answer these questions, I did a direct comparison between a top of the range expressed lemon oil and this distilled oil.
The result?
Well, there was surprisingly little difference in the scent and performance. Both had the bright freshness from the limonene content as well as the sweet sherbet strength of the citral component. It was only after about 20 minutes on the strip that a small variation appeared between the two with the distilled oil actually retaining its fizzy lemon while the expressed oil turned more juicy smelling. But then another 20 minutes later and the two are indistinguishable again. There is one HUGE difference between these oils though – the process of distillation does not retain the photo-toxic ingredients that do remain present in the expressed oil. So you have no worries about using this distilled lemon oil in products that are to be used on skin! In fact IFRA has approved this oil for use up to a whopping 15% in the fragrance concentrate! This is why I personally am switching over to this distilled oil in my perfumery – you can’t go wrong.”

Who said citruses were short living top notes? Definitely I would not say so about distilled lemon.
Zingy fresh, sharp and vibrating beautiful lemon lasts for ages.
I tried it in chypre natural perfume, oh my, you have to be very careful with this performer. It lasts proudly in the blend. 24 hours later distilled lemon was still there on the strip!
This material is completely different from expressed lemon and does exactly what you expect from fresh lemon in the formula.
I understand now why Mandy Aftel prefers distilled lemon where lemon is required.

I was pleasantly surprised by this distilled lemon oil from Sicily. Compared to the raw, expressed oil, this material’s odor is sharper, more intense, aldehydic and slightly terpenic, with a citric richness as exists in high-quality citronella and verbena oils. While this product may be somewhat harsh, I find it characterful, recalling carbonated lemonade soft drinks. My thanks to Hermitage Oils for introducing me to this intriguing and unusual product, which I will use creatively.

You can’t go wrong with this, there is literally nothing not to like about it! It’s as if the distillation process has preserved the oil. It seems slightly sweeter than expressed lemon oil does yet its still fresh and zingy and true to life as you’d expect, I’d choose this over expressed lemon oil for perfumery any day.

Beautiful, bursting and joyous. This one is my favourite citrus scent from Hermitage, the Bergamot is also wonderful. A few drops will brighten your composition.

Very clean. Opening this bottle is just like squeezing a freshly sliced ripe lemon in your hand.

I love distilled citrus oils! They smell like citrus peel, while cold-pressed oils always have a note of fruit juice. And this lemon lived up to my expectations. It is drier and more tart, brighter and more powerful than pressed lemon oil. In addition, the resistance of distilled citrus oils is slightly higher than that of pressed oils-based on my personal experience, at least.

Delicious clean lemon, fantastic top note. Like the other citruses offered, this is especially clean and pure in character. I’m not detecting any harsh notes.

Brightness in a bottle, zingy, juicy, fruity. Might be in the top 3 of my fav citrus eo, it’s fizzy and just pops. With pink pepper wild and ginger eo, you might just have a carbonated drink in your bottle. Store in a fridge though, after 1 year stored at 12°c it’s still considerably less fuzzy than a newer oil.

That’s a delicacy! This FCF Lemon is so beautifully pure that at some point it reminds me of May Chang or Verbena. It definitely reminds me of fondant sweets in chocolate wrapped in colored foil, which we hung on the Christmas tree as children. I think it will be a significant element in my work, I can imagine it in so many combinations that I don’t know where to start. And once again – thanks for the FCF Lemon!

Smells oh so fresh. The most perfect, natural, happy lemon scent you can imagine. Almost floral in its natural sweetness. Differs from the Lemon 4-fold concentrate, which smells like tart, sugared candies (lemon drops) even in dilution. If you have to pick only one, pick this one; it is so happy! Plus it’s calorie-free. =) Lovely with vanilla or Opoponax.
