Papuan Gold Vetiver M.D E.O
Adam Michael has this to say “As of the 10th April 2025 we now offer this Papuan vetiver molecular distilled essential oil. I have spent a lot of time musing about this vetiver. The opening starts out in an aged Java fashion due to the rich gourmand qualities that blast upwards, the middle has both sweet-grassy, nutty and smoked woody qualities that remind me of smelling a Brazil-Paraguay vetiver combo. And then there is the petrichor through to brain-buzz effects in play that I associate with North Indian green vetivers that are both juiced and aged by the finest artisans in that part of the world.
This is vetiver yes, but a vetiver that you can deep-dive within, a vetiver on an elevated level of excellence and one of which makes you ponder if aromatics, beyond functionality are also an art form. This is top-table vetiver. The top is bursting with warm rich early morning coffee vibes, soaked with dark chocolate shavings, traces of liquorice and finished with spice tinged woody nuances and caramel sprinkles. The bones of this aromatic are absolutely spectacular, full of petrichor-earthy through to root type character that is drenched in coffee, toffee, caramel gourmand notes and underscored with woody themes. No off notes, no rough edges, the woody tonalities have a heavily aged antique vibe in play, the smoky character is incense through to Cuban cigar themed, the grassy notes are balanced beautifully with the earthier aspects. There are pockets of sweetness, floral themes and herbaceous qualities – reminiscent of batches of fresh patchouli that lean more in a minty direction.
Produced by steam distillation of the dried roots and then subjected to deterpenation and further refining via molecular distillation. Rich fire amber to jelly red in colour (see photo) and of a pourable viscosity, and a useful modifier for compositions of a woody, floral and oriental nature.”
