Wild Kalakassi Oud E.O (Mokokchung)

Adam Michael has this to say “This wild Kalakassi Indian oud produced from A. agallocha woods hails from the Mokokchung district of Nagaland. Kalakassi is the Indian name that simply refers to the oud formation inside the agarwood tree and of which forms mostly along the length of the tree trunk.

This oud e.o is a full on faecal party from the opening, with all barn yard aspects here in the early profile. Like some of the Skanky Assam batches I have had my brain registers castoreum, the most faecal civet known to man, muskrat, and mechanics overalls with those dirty grimy metallic hues akin to aspects of our Tool Box tincture. Within this profile I also pick out decaying wood, twigs and leaves, antique wooden furniture, forest floor components, gentle smoky traits, mud, wet clay, leather, horse hair, cresol, heat in a black pepper form, and a core which is deep dense hyraceum orientated in my opinion.

As time progresses you do find intervals of non specific sweet airy floral fruity tonalities pitter pattering in and out of detection, along with camphorous trace mint tonalities and dark chocolate nuances that I better associate with vintage Sylhet oud,  yet these complementary notes are always underpinned with hyraceum at the very least. Also from the heart onwards and on occasion I do interpret a mash up of clean mitti attar and North Indian wild green vetiver qualities that are both soul-calming and mind-bending in effect, if you consider the opening of this oud.

To sum up, this is definitely one for the seasoned oud connoisseur who enjoys both full spectrum oud along with the raw, animalic intense and skanky characteristics that ouds can showcase. 12 hours on my skin type, the intensity mellows after 8 hours and 2 years of age at the time of writing (15.07.2026), the colour is actually honey brown, of a pourable but slightly thick consistency, minimal soaking and a fire wood distillation.”
