Basil Holy Essential Oil

Adam Michael has this to say “Basil Holy essential oil or Tulsi as it is commonly known is of great religious importance to those of eastern civilisation and anyone who lives the ‘Ayurveda’ life. My knowledge of the chakra system is not overly great but I understand holy basil plays a huge part as it is supposed to balance the chakras enabling easy flow of energy from chakra wheel to chakra wheel and in doing so the idea is that the mind, body and soul will function in optimal condition. Holy basil essential oil is produced by steam distillation of the fragrant leaves and the colour is golden yellow. It is said to reduce cortisol levels in the body (although I need to find the source to verify this), cortisol is a stress hormone, so if true it could be considered highly useful in massage to reduce those suffering with stress and anxiety. It is more commonly used in massage to treat digestive upsets.”

Joseph Colbourne has this to say “Also known as tulsi and valued in Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine), basil holy essential oil opens with a warm, embracing aroma of allspice, bay, mint and licorice. The thin pale gold liquid is winsome and comforting, spicy and sweet, yet calm and green. Its high eugenol content becomes apparent in its balsamic, clove-like drydown. The base is vaguely musky and reminiscent of angelica. What is noteworthy is that there is also an element of elegance and mystique in holy basil’s marriage of sweet spice and verdant herb. One could build around the idea of an enchanted garden using holy basil at its centerpiece, surrounded by ferns, rare blooms and sinuous thickets.”
