Adam Michael has this to say “This Bulgarian rose absolute is very different in aroma profile from the dewy pink petal goodness of our Rose Absolute Pink Supreme. Instead this material goes more in a velvety red rose direction. Warm, spicy-floral, very rich, indulgent, full blown red roses and ever so slightly honey sweet.
The power of this rose absolute is insanely good, always so rich and fulsome, always red rose floral, and underpinned with delicate spice nuances throughout. 18 hours on the smelling strip, fire red in colour, of a pourable viscosity and of course produced by solvent extraction of the Bulgarian rose petals.
If you are wanting to create Oriental themed attars and perfumes then this rose is a must, pairs especially well with oud, tobacco, beeswax, hay, jasmine and countless other naturals. This rose gets the very best out of other materials and rounds out any harsh notes in the process.”
An old story about roses involving the ancient Hindu legend and supposed creator of the world, Brahma. It is said that Brahma and Vishnu (the protector of the world) argued over whether the lotus was more beautiful than the rose. Vishnu backed the rose, while Brahma supported the lotus. But Brahma had never seen a rose before and when he did he immediately recanted. As a reward Brahma created a bride for Vishnu and called her Lakshmi – she was created from 108 large and 1008 small rose petals.

Wow! This is intoxicating and is totally different in character from other rose materials I own, giving a distinct ‘Bulgarian’ flavour to blends.
It’s quite dead. Dead in a good way, that vague hint of decay from roses that have just started to wilt in a vase, not jammy or bright like a Ta’if Absolute more Geraniol biased rose. Adds a naturalistic touch to rose accords for me and it’s extremely complex, deep and powerful and a beautiful red colour too.

Very good high quality natural rose scent. I have blended this with Jasmine sambac and Sandalwood Mysore etc. to create a luxurious Attar.
This product can be used in almost any blend to improve the overall character of the composition.

The way this Absolute wraps all notes together in the drydown is priceless!

Often, Bulgarian rose absolute is slightly spicier than the Turkish variety, and this product from Hermitage is typical in that respect, with a fruitiness recalling stewed prunes rather than berries or lychee, as may be found in other absolutes. The odour profile here is floral, honeyed and jammy, with notes of carnation, pepper and geranium that lend strength and character, over a dark, suave, tobacco and animalic background. Powerful, heavy and substantive, this absolute boasts good body and potent, oriental charm.

This Rose Absolute is incredible. I bought this with one of my first orders in 2019 and thought I wouldnt use it much as rose reminds me a little of old ladies perfume… how wrong I was. It’s my most used floral and its not even close. Which reminds me, I must order a new bottle soon!

Fantastic, clean, powdery rose. No decay. Rich and sweet. Simply beautiful and versatile.

I am giving only a three star rating because I think the description is not correct. The scent is lovely, I really like the scent from the bottle and it is interestingly different from others roses I’ve smelled in that it’s less sweet, it smells like dried petals perhaps which can be desirable. But it’s not “insanely powerful”, 18 hours on the smelling strip apparently does not equal how long it lasts on the skin. I smell it for about 5-10 minutes. I guess if you are very rich you could buy wholesale and use it as a nice body lotion. However, for me and my meager savings 14 euros for a milliliter of oil is a lot of money (maybe not expensive for rose, but for me it is). That is why I was disappointed, especially because the scent is so nice and it would be great if it lasted longer on the skin, but it just evaporates within minutes. The consistency is very thin. Still, I do like the scent and in a pure rose perfume it would function well as a top note. I can definitely imagine it being used in cosmetics for the face (face oil) or hands (hand cream) where other oils might be too overpowering, though, in hand cream you would have to use a lot and it would be expensive. I am not sure if I would order it again though I do like the scent and will try it as a top note in compositions. Maybe that will be interesting and I will order more in the future, it is just not what I was expecting because of the description.

This rose absolute is rich, it has a deep “red” sparkle with a strong oriental tilt. You would not find this type of rose in a Dior or Channel perfume but certainly in the oils you find in the middle-east. This absolute is quality and powerful.

To my nose, this batch of Bulgarian Absolute is crisp in the opening, diffusive at the heart and springtime-fresh and silk-light throughout – all the facets, including the piquant spice and the leafy ‘green garden’ touch, are in the continuous equipoise of a floating delicacy, with the powdery translucent note becoming more apparent in the drydown. This intimately gentle, soothing Rose invites you to glide into a peaceful repose and idyllic daydreaming…
