Adam Michael has this to say “Produced from the leaves by steam distillation, cassia essential oil is golden yellow in colour and of a pourable viscosity. The aroma of cassia essential oil is intense cinnamon sweet, spicy, warm, balsamic, with a huge dollop of honey.”
Arctander has this to say “Cassia Oil, or Chinese Cinnamon Oil, is steam distilled from the leaves of Cinnamomum Cassia, large slender trees which grow in the southeastern parts of China and, to a minor extent, in Vietnam and India (Cochin). The bark of this tree is known all over the world as “cinnamon bark” or “cassia-cinnamon”, not to be confused with the true Ceylon cinnamon bark which is derived from a different species (see Cinnamon Bark Oil).”
Botanical Name: Cinnamomum cassia
Origin: China

A really really beautiful cassia. Since I picked this up I have turned to this more and more often with good results instead of the various other cinnamon materials. I find this cassia is best suited for situations which require a light, clean, diffusive, cinnamon. A hugely important material capable of bringing perfumes to life. Even in trace amounts it adds playful warmth, bite, and character to any situation requiring cinnamon. As with any cinnamon/cassia I recommend a soft touch unless you wish to venture into Hot Tamale territory.
