Almond Bitter Essential Oil

Adam Michael has this to say “The aroma of bitter almond essential oil is almond intense and sweet nutty with watery apple and juicy cherry nuances. This essential oil is produced from the volatile oil obtained from the bitter almond kernels – Prunus amygdalus var. Amara.  The main chemical constituent in the essential oil is benzaldehyde (>97%) whether this is from a natural or synthetic source – both may still be sold as bitter almond.

According to the IFRA46 published in June 2011 the maximum level of use (%) of bitter almond oil in – deodorant is 0.02%, fine fragrance 0.09%, body lotion 0.27%, facial cream 0.14%, soap 3%.

Bitter almond has a specific gravity (g/ml) at 20°C of 1.039 – 1.059. The refractive index at 20°C is 1.542 – 1.548 and the flash point of bitter almond is >61°C.”
