Pretty amazing stuff this and a welcome addition to the palate considering the ethical dilemma that real civet presents. This doesn’t smell like real civet at all but I suspect that most perfume lovers who think they love an animal ‘civet’ note are actually more fond of something like this than the animal derived variety. This has a more spicy, peppery, impact almost that of cumin, with a complex dirty, leathery heart and sinks down heavily into the base of an accord or composition. For the purposes of experimentation the 10ml of Civet liquid I bought is likely all I will ever need, as it’s only to be used in low concentrations to make a workable material and then in turn is only used in traces in a formula.

Starts off smelling like your alcoholic uncle when leans in for the customary cheek-to-cheek greeting, but it rapidly reveals more spicy and resinous facets once you focus in on the scent. It smells dirty and indolic but combines well with ambers, cumin and coriander, a good choice for a skankier oriental.

I had absolutely no idea what to do with this so diluted it to 1% in PA and let it sit for a couple of months. Oh wow, it just gets more and more wonderful. The faint initial cat pee thing has matured already to a fabulous, slightly less floral indole to the wonderful natural version I also purchased here (which I adore). So refreshing to find a supplier that’s passionate about perfumery, very fairly priced and seems to go out of their way to delight us.

Indolic,mellowed out by that honey aspect. It is simply the best recreation.
Compared to the real Civet Absolute, it’s more intense with stronger Indolic and Skatolic smells. This means you should dose a tad more carefully. Creaminess is a lot harder to differentiate until it’s diluted. Even still, You can’t argue with a product that is 1/10th of the cost of real Civet Absolute
Be cautious when pairing Citrus and white florals like Neroli, Orange Blossom as the green and orange aspects make it smells like a spring garden! If that’s your note, then further enhance it with Miel and a slight boost of Anthranilate, but not too much or you’ll get a wierd mothball effect. Add some amber sweetie and Sandalwood co2 Materials to really ground it out. Patchouli will give it a slight earthy and woody smell. Violet Absolute in small quantities, oh don’t forget Potato Pyrazine and Geosmin for the smell of dirt!
