Adam Michael has this to say “As soon as I experienced this Orris Absolute with a 12% irones content, I was immediately hooked and purchased the artisans entire batch on the spot.
The opening is gourmand rich, lots of milk chocolate with gooey salted caramel aspects and heavenly root and earthy nuances that in trace fashion, leans towards a vetiver territory and all finished with trace aspects of playful plasticine.
The heart, wow, pure love for me, this has nuances resembling baked bread just out of the oven, chocolate-woody notes, buttery-chocolate notes, just the right amount of sweetness and diluted nuances resembling licorice. The base, mostly gourmand like and with distinct sweet baked bread character.
For use within gourmand bases, improving woody accords, great within heavy florals and I find it works wonders within compositions that are top note citrus rich – especially mandarins.
As far as our orris collection is concerned, this Orris Absolute is yet another smash-hit, top of the line, benchmark of excellence material. Without hesitation, 9 out of 10 material and a must try.”
This material is diluted at 50% in ethanol and of a pourable viscosity.

Just used this as part of my “violet base” and wow! It is powdery, warm, soft, but didn’t disappear in the blend I used.

Truly gorgeous, Orris root is one the most exciting, privileged ingredients, a must for refined perfume work – because beyond its own scent, it provide a luxurious bed in the base, changing the whole background of a fragrance, giving intriguing magnetic depth to the whole composition.
As the smell itself, it progresses from intense radiant earthiness – of ripe oak acorns scattered under old oak tree, and of toasted chicory, and some dark molasses and bitter cacao as second fiddles. Then, as it gradually diffuses, the fine magnetic, powdery violet-like melody of irones opens up and comes upfront, while maintaining a rich ‘brown’ earthy mood in the background. As it moves into a long drydown, it becomes ever more refined, silvery-violet glowing cloud – in my visualisation.

I looked for the gourmand coffee- chocolate-like noted orris absolute, like the French orris absolute can be. And this is precisely what I looked for. A bit dry, with a pronounced tobacco note, which, it seems, is formed due to a soft green violet-leaf note, when it combines with warm sweet and volume gourmand note.
