Adam Michael has this to say “Ladies and gentlemen, after many years of searching, Her Majesty Patchouli Absolute is back. Sourced from a new artisan supplier, this is probably the best Patchouli material we have ever had on offer (at the time of writing, November 2018), and it wholeheartedly deserves the “Super Premium” title.
Everything you can expect from a good bottle of beautifully aged patchouli is here, but better. The umatched depth and richness, the sweet, balsamic sticky-oriental amber notes, the fruit-infused woodiness and even a mouth-watering dewy mint – green herby aspect. This material provides unparalleled volume, warmth and richness to fragrance compositions, it is a heart to base note and blends excellently well with cedarwoods, sandalwoods, pemou, opoponax, pom pom and countless others. Useful in deep amber, woody, oriental accords, etc., actually its use can only be limited by our imagination. To my nose this patchouli absolute is even better than the aroma of an aged dark patchouli essential oil with the added bonus of not having to wait a decade or more for the privilege.”
This patchouli absolute material is produced by solvent extracting the leaves and is dark brown-olive green in colour and of a perfectly pourable consistency.
Arctander has this to say of it: “Patchouli blends beautifully with labdanum, vetiver, sandalwood, ionones, cedarwood derivatives, coumarin, oakmoss, geranium, clove oils, lavender, rose, bergamot, neroli, orris “resinoid”, nitromusks, cinnamates, methyl salicylate, cassia oil, myrrh, opopanax, sage clary absolute, borneol, pine needle oils, cyclohexanone derivatives. It forms an important ingredient in Oriental bases, woody bases, fougeres, chypres, opopanax bases, powder-type perfumes, etc. It is an excellent masking agent for depilatory creams, e.g. in combination with orange type materials”.

Was I expecting too much ? I am not a big fan of this abs. It is rather muddy, not what I would expect from a Super Premium Absolute.

Hello Thomas, we’re sorry you didn’t like it as this is an all time favourite of ours. It is a matter of personal taste though, of course. It could also be that you don’t like the fruitier, sweeter notes of this patchouli. Should this be the case then I’ d encourage you to consider materials like Patchouli Heart CO2 instead. Kind regards, Adam

Let me say a few things about this patchouli and Hermitage. The Patchouli is amazing! It’s soft, sweet, sexy and mixes well with other floral oils like rose and rose and musk mixed. Love, love, love.
What I want to write about Hermitage is how wonderful the customer service is. I use a few vendors from the European Union and find all to very good. Hermitage is exceptional. Very responsive with emails, patient with questions, and getting my package sent to the US in two days was pretty amazing. I will use hermitages service as a bar to hold my own company to.

I already bought a second bottle of this Patchouli absolute. Pulls out all earthy but also lavender scents. Excellent. One drop enough.

I usually use Clearwood for softest patchouli smell, then Patchouli Ultra Light, then Patchouli Light which is quite strong. Then there is this.. Very strong and deep. Smells more natural and earthy. Use carefully, a drop makes a difference

My first introduction to pachouli was in Thailands “urbanized” jungle in a luxurious Spa. I was really young lady born in Lithuania – so no patchouli grows in my native country and no patchouli i ever met in Italy were i have been living for few decades :)))).
I asked a lady what aroma was she diffusing in a bungalow – and she told me “Patchouli”.
I felt in love in a blink of a nano second and the day after went through a number of herbal and essential oil shops available in the area sniffing like a curious baby not only patchouli but also some other “mysterious” essentials.
So love for love for a Patchouli essential oil is ok, but when i have got this treasure of a Pachouli absolute from Hermitage oils and it literally hypnotized me !
It’s wet soil with wet autumn leaves on a ground under an oak wood in a mixed forest covered with oak moss, it’s woody, it’s earthy !
It’s sweet, it’s sweet dried countryside flowers, it’s herbaceous.
It’s another masterpiece of nature in a glass bottle – it’s my love forever and ever.
Do not miss it ! 🙂

This is a wonderful Patchouli. Tried a few drops from a friend, I fell in love and ordered a few bottles. It has a surprising richness, grassy-sweet, balsamic, woody, with a note of delicious french cognac. Goes well with another excellent super premium: aged Java Vetiver: they form an accord that I love to call “Autumn Leaves” – yes, like in the mood of Chet Baker and Ruth Young 🙂 – and that I wear as a minimal personal perfume. Simply fantastic.

Unbelievable. As a devoted patchouli lover, I have never experienced anything quite so incredible. I will leave the detailed description to the professionals as I couldn’t begin to do this justice but will just say I am DEEP IN LOVE!

Ah, Patchouli Absolute!
So deep, warm, seductive.. It has some great gourmande-ish aspects, I really get a Curaçao liqueur note, and I can see how this could be steered towards a cake-y, chocolate-y patchouli. Not quite like the aged patchouli oils I have worked with, not too earthy but a very, very deep and dark and beautiful absolute, a thing on its own.

This is the most beautiful and smoothest patchouli I have ever smelt. Still has a strong herbaceous presence and its very uplifting.

To me, this patchouli absolute is a scary material, but hear me out.
Matcha and minty qualities, sweet resinous aspects, patchouli but not the damp way a newer EO would be. It’s fruity like, earthy still a bit but what a difference this is from the regular patchouli I was used to smelling. So deep and voluptuous, a perfume on its own, I wore it neat more than I would like to admit.
Why scary then ? Well it’s such a beautiful material, I honestly don’t think I have the skills to do it justice in a blend and I’m just afraid of ruining this precious gem. I’ll buy more, 100%.

Excuisite batch of rich Patchouli basolute, polished and nuanced, with an amber-hued minty haze floating around, and touch of fruit liquor lurking in the depth of the heart.
Refined aphrodisiac allure of primal musky bittersweet animalism – in embrace with rich earth to the drowdown, have in fact a hidden support from an understated but sustained from top to base – elegant note of aged pu erh tea weaving everything together in a skin-loving sensual perfume in its own right.

As a big fan of Mother-Earth scents, I collect every worthy Patchouli essence that crosses my path in the last 32 years, not just to enjoy liberally but to learn, how through a single take on species, the Uniqueness of ‘Terroir’ – the combination of factors, including soil, climate, and environment, that gives an essence its Individual character;
– plus the human Craft of Extraction & Distillation, to create an Essence as close to Nature as possible, yet concentrating its most ephemeral elements, to be aesthetically contributing to the general vibe –
just like in this Fine Absolute, to which my immediate nickname was ‘Smooth Operator’ – rich dense flowing in perfect balance, yet nothing sharp or in excess – all in Smooth Balance.
This Absolute posesses all the chracteristics the Classical Patchouli should have, and in high density (that’s why smelling from the bottle is not a good impression at all in this case – as it can appear medical and acrid, out of its sheer density). Let it breath:
– rich earthy yet sweet, dry powdery yet not dusty, nutty yet not burnt, bitter yet not caustic, herbaceous but not medicinal, spicy yet not sharp, sensual yet not pushy, raw naturalistic yet elegant, silky, heavy resinous yet diffusive – all at the same time.
This Patchouli – sensuous, elegant, growing in its sweetness through drydown, still keeping all the parts including the ‘herby borneo camphor’ note;
– this absolute is particularly equipoised in keeping all the notes together, – providing a great Backbone to Wood & Fougere, contributing to Chipre & Velvet, and supporting Spice & Green accords, resulting in effortless, sensually tranquille, rich without ever being overbearing (like some Patchoulis are), in awake yet relaxed mood. Smoooooth Operator…

I took a gamble on buying this Absolute… I’m so happy that I have…Patchouli that’s so different from usual…a smell that makes people want to ask you “WHAT’S THAT NICE PERFUME YOU ARE WEARING”
