Adam Michael has this to say “Peru balsam essential oil, produced by dry vacuum distillation of the crude balsam. This material is red amber in colour and of a pourable viscosity. The aroma is rich, amber balsamic with a mouth-watering benzoin and vanilla sweetness. The tenacity of peru balsam essential oil is mind blowing and this material can be considered as an outstanding fixative especially regarding floral blends. I’d also like to put on record I have sampled this material via all the well known Grasse businesses and absolutely none of them get close to offering an aromatic as good as what we are sourcing.”
Arctander has this to say “The odour is truly balsamic, rich, deep-sweet, slightly spicy and vanillin-sweet. A distinct smoky undertone is natural, but should not be predominant, and may fade away after proper ageing of the oil. The tenacity in odour of this oil is outstanding, making it one of the best fixatives among all essential oils. Its suave odour makes Peru Balsam oil a very versatile perfume material which can be incorporated in almost any type of perfume base or perfume at concentrations of from less than one percent up to more than five percent. For delicate floral fragrances such as muget, lilac, appleblossom, ect, this oil blends excellently with floral as well as with balsamic or spicy notes.”

Excellent oil..a unique perfume that reminds me church incense in a cathedral..i can actually get Frankincense, vanilla, amber, and something dark in it that i cannot explain..it is a fixative yes ..but this amazing stuff its actually a sedative. A tool for meditation and a complete perfume for me..

A rich spicy, honeyed, smoky vanilla that is more complex that is as good, if not better than pure vanilla. Reminds me of happy family moments of roasting marshmallows around a campfire…

Caramel, coffee and vanilla notes ! All together makes it a great Peru balsam material and easy to use. A bit similar to Benzoin and if I had to choose between both, I would pick Benzoin.

Gosh what a powerful beast. Long lasting, wants to show off, can definitely overtake a composition very quickly. What a fixative oh my, really impressed by this one. Less on the vanilla than other offers I tried before, more smoky, woody (cedar grain) . Warm and inviting, pairs beautifully with white florals, vetiveryl acetate (enhance the honey aspects). I would suggest not going over a few % (even 1) if your composition doesn’t include other heavy materials.
