Joseph Colbourne has this to say “The amber-coloured, steam-distilled essential oil of white oud or gaharu buaya (Aetoxylon sympetalum) is certainly an eyebrow-raiser, with its evocative, warm, umami, damp, smoky head notes. Its as if one were in the presence of a decomposing fallen tree trunk in the woods, with its microcosm of moss, lichen, parasol mushrooms, molds, must, burrowing insects. An notably salty, animalic undercurrent lends a seductive element as it mellows on the perfume strip.
A few hours into the dry down, white oud develops into a softer, peppery, guaiacwood-like rare woods aroma, while the slightest ember of smoke remains. This evocative material pairs nicely with white florals, jasmine, rose cedars, sandalwoods, and could be an evocative contribution to leather accords, campfire accords, ambers, incense, and tobacco blends.”

This is woody heaven, it is musty, oriental, elegant and exotic.

This hot, woody, astringent yet pleasantly musty smelling oil could be both a top and a bottom note to my nose, its refined and elegant enough, a bit like a more masculine rosewood with a boozy Tenassee honey whiskey note at the back and sides.

This clean, sophisticated wood is understated yet very arousing. It inspires me to create a fragrance that simply highlights it as the centrepiece. I can see the smell it’s so formidable.

Love this material. Has a nice long lasting scent which is really easy to point out, to me it has an orris kind of smell.
I’m running low, so I’ll need a top for sure.

Once you get past the initial heavy guaiacwood hit it then softens out to a more rosewood/linalool layer. Decent with tobbacco and tea blends

Heaven. A far away exotic place a few hundred years ago. Old leather, a soft and sweet ember smoke wafting over a decaying tree trunk, a cigar-infused leather chair, the comfort of sweet myrrh, a forest floor; the sweet musty decay of moss and ferns; vegetal, fungal, woody and a softly spicy earth mingling with musty vetiver …warm and moist, sultry and sensual.
Exotic, sensual, masculine, sophisticated, arousing!

Sexy and soft but also a little medicinally with a lot of ambrette seeds and soft white flowers up to a point to keep its muscularity..excellent oil
