Eleonora Scalseggi has this to say “A spice favourite of many, cardamom is commonly offered as an essential oil and much more rarely as an absolute material. Cardamom absolute is of course a cardamom material, warm spicy yet fresh with light eucalyptus nuances. The absolute offering however is much warmer, woodier and sweeter and has much more body and complexity than any essential oil material.
The absolute is also mellower -almost velvety- and definitely less loud than the essential oil (which is chiefly a top note). It makes a brilliant heart and base note obviously in oriental and spicy accords but also green floral compositions where its soft floral dry-out blends in perfectly. A very good modifier also perfect when you want a soft cardamom note right in the heart of your composition rather than in its top. Perfectly pourable yet slightly thicker than the water-like essential oil, warm brown in colour and effortlessly alcohol soluble too.”
Botanical Name: Elettaria cardamomum

This is not a very common material. Yet a very useful one for any blends – especially floral, oud, and resin oriented ones, and in oriental, gourmand, and chypre blends.
Goes quite well with orris, rose, ylang ylang, tuberose, gardenia, oud (Malaysian, Indian, Thai – all wild), resins, and so on.
Although cardamom is considered as a top note material, due to being an absolute, it imparts it’s beauty slowly and in a more nuanced way than its EO counterpart. It also modifies the top and heart note of various blends quite beautifully – providing a subtle spiciness (never strong) – subject to usage of course. Highly recommended!

A divine absolute which embodies warm, sweet, woody nuances which are very long lasting but not loud & in your face.
Goes very well with resins such as frankincense, olibanum & fruity floral notes such as ylang ylang, neroli & verbena.

Very nice. Sweeter than the essential oil , still diffusive but warmer.

I’ve tried so many samples of cardamom absolute and this is by far the nicest. It’s beautiful–reminds me of my favorite cardamom pastries with its round vanilla sweetness (not at all sharp like the essential oil). A little goes a long way–I used this in an oriental blend and after a few days in the bottle, it had dominated the blend. (Certainly not a bad thing, just something to note!)

If you are looking for a cardamom note, this is the one. Full scent of cardamom in a very round and filling scent. Impacts top notes as well as middle notes. Highly recommended!

Very real, strong cardemom, quite sweet and lovely with tuberose.

Exceptional quality oil and although i love the co2 distillation i found this abs richer/sweeter and more powerful..better buy both to have alternatives depending your composition..a must have material..

Gorgeous material, longer lasting spicy note. Only missing a star because for some reasons I find it has some of the black cardamom aspects I’m less fond of in the top notes. Once it dries down though it reveals sweetness, still cardamom like, but more along the lines of cardamom cakes one of my friend used to make, delicious.
