This absolute gets produced only every few years and is therefore extremely rare; to our knowledge only Hermitage has had the privilege to be able to offer this specific production within Europe.
Elegantly heady and dry-floral as only a superior grade champaca material can be, this absolute offers all the floral classiness of neroli along with the light astringent qualities of sparkling champagne and fresh green tea leaves.
Less spicy and much cleaner than the white champaca offering, this absolute evolves gracefully maintaining its floral beauty from start to finish without any of the dirtier barn-like notes sometimes featuring in the dryout of other champaca materials.
Typically considered a heart note being a floral material this red absolute defies obvious classifications with its very high, almost ethereal top note ascending into the sky. So no wonder why in India and the South-East Asia champaca is traditionally associated with spirituality and still very present in the religious traditions of these countries.
Like other champaca offerings this absolute needs to be paired with rich but weak smelling materials like sandalwood oils, olibanum oleoresin or nerolidol natural isolate, since the flower doesn’t possess a dominant nature and its finest features would be easily overpowered by “loud” materials.”

If I was filthy rich, I would buy 100 grams of this stunning material and make a blend of only deer musk, sandalwood, Taif rose otto, Persian rose absolute, ambergris, civet, moroccan jasmine, and some 20+ years aged Hindi oil (distilled from wild trees). That is how much I love this stuff.

This Red Champaca Absolute is a sublime, heavenly luxurious gift from nature.
It opens with Sweet jasmine and orange blossom.
After you can clearly detect a rich tuberose scent, but of course it is full of fragrant magnolia heart as well as Alba Michelia. I can even detect some ambrette seed and jasmine in it.
I can slightly smell a jade wood, aged Cabreuva and star anise.
Ylang Ylang lets him notice in this wonderful flower like an angel in a clear sky.
It’s intoxicating, it’s aphrodisiac, sensual with its hint of indole, tenacious and somehow slightly animalic – or call it sexy if you wish 😉 .
While it dries down you can percept a green leaves, fine tea, rose and leaf, dry florals, clary sage, honey, soft hay, dried fruits and even more.
It is really a complex material at my humble opinion – it is not only Champaca – it is a bouquet of most precious flowers.
Not in vain it is also called “Joy perfume tree”, “Yellow jade orchid tree”
I love it, i love it, i love it – one more of my mostly beloved scents.
A perfume on its own as orange blossom that i can not stop smelling.
It was used to make Attars as well.

Red Champaca is something. It smells like a combination of white champaca, hay and a bunch of white flowers. It has a sharpness to it that white champaca doesn’t so it needs to be used conservatively in a composition. It easily overpowered other materials. I also pickup a dryness from it. This would work very well in a chypre.

Well, this is something else. I only ordered 1ml just to see how it smells and I was immediately blown away by the complexity and sensuality of this material. In the same time it has some roughness that makes it even more interesting because on a first sniff you’d say a feminine scent but then you’re going “oh, it also has something masculine”. That’s why I say is a complex one and something that is worth developing a fragrance having it as a main theme. I can detect tea notes with heavy jasmine sambac sides + some animalic ones. I need to stop, a true masterpiece material on its own.

I’m not a perfumer and my nose is very untrained, however this oil surprised me!
I already own a cheap champaca oil which I now suspect is fake based on what I now smell.
Firstly, I couldn’t detect any floral notes at all. There was an initial whiff of headiness, lots of warm hay, vanilla and spice and something I just couldn’t place my finger on for ages. It’s a gentle fruity soapiness like you get in those childhood cherrylips sweets.
Theres lots of sweet honey but what it makes me think of is lying on my back on a lazy midsummer afternoon underneath the blazing sun in a field of hay. Theres a warm, gentle breeze tickling your face, and the scent of alyssum wafts across as the buzz of bees sends you into a daydream. I’m only an hour in but that’s what I’ve got so far!

Champaca is lovely powdery scent that makes other florals more luscious and indolic. As much as I enjoy the scent itself, I have to agree with hajjikram – this red Champaca has a slight sharpness that makes it less balanced than White Champaca. In small amounts this is your friend, in larger amounts it quickly turns into an enemy: making other florals seem heavy, old, and dusty. I do disagree somewhat with the numerous comparisons to Jasmine, perhaps it can remind someone of Jasmine, but I don’t believe this can replace Jasmine in a blend.

I am just someone who loves scent and wanting to relive my favorite childhood memory. Spent part of my childhood in Suzhou China where Jasmine Sumbac and white chamcapa were very popular local flowers. Girls wear them during the blooming season. Red chamcapa were of a larger variation, not normally worn but equally adored.
I wasted a lot of money trying to find a reasonable Champaca oil. Some smelled good, but not real. Others were bad enough to be real, definitely not good! Just when i almost gave up… this is the closest thing I found and I LOVE it!

Flawless in subtle balance, exceptionally impactful – use with caution especially with other florals, as it can swallow their individuality, resulting in a cloying, overly pompous bouquet and dated ‘potpourri’ impression.
Red Champaca abs. can serve as a floral star needing no support from other flowers, instead dynamically contrasted – by noble roots and antique woods or by effervecent aldehydes on top.
