Adam Michael has this to say “I am very pleased to say I have now found a Spanish source for gorgeous Cistus ladanifer essential oil. In my opinion this material is warm, earthy, with a highly fascinating and stimulating sweet heart note, perhaps comparable to smelling aged ambergris and sugar sweet figs. This incredibly tenacious material is produced by steam distilling the leaves and twigs and is amber in colour and of thin viscosity. This plant is also responsible for Labdanum in its various forms.”
This material is a great fixative for the perfumer and used in massage within aromatherapy can be considered useful to effectively treat Candida, Escherichia, and Staphylococcus.

I have thing for cistus. This cistus is high sweet, sweet enough to be a bit gourmand. Sweet and high enough to be a bit floral. Diffusive, warm, very grounding . I find this cistus elegant, and layered then the floral , then some warmth, a diffusive puff of sweet. I don’t know if it’s a thing , but I like to add this instead of labdamum in chypres.

Boozy, bold and beautiful amber with more sparkle than the heavier labdanum absolute. Smells very similar to a stunning piece of ambergris I was fortunate to lay my hands on recently. With of touch of ambrette and civet I’d say you’d have a good substitute for the real deal and therefore makes a great addition to amber accords. Glad to see it’s (finally!) back in stock!

Wow. I was blown away when I put this on the strip. Its strong and finds it way to your nose. A little intoxicating – potentially seductive. Somehow sweet and smooth despite the complex earthiness and sharp floral notes. I’m in love.

don’t be deceived thinking it’s like labdanum, it’s not smoky but more clean like liquidamber orientalis styrax absolute to my nose. And yes, like stated elsewhere: it’s STRONG! I want to try to work with a dilution to not have one drop overpower a whole composition. it may make a wonder incense accord i don’t know about yet. on the oil heater however: divine! it is relaxing, an anxiolitic and almost like a painkiller for neuropathic pain since it calms me down and makes me feel almost a little high. good for insomnia. in perfume i still have to find a way to make it work, it has somewhat of a harsh quality to it (most cistus that i’ve smelled do) but if you are interested in essential oil therapy ingredients you just need to try it!
