Lions Ear ORGANIC Essential Oil
Adam Michael has this to say “At the time of writing (26.04.16) we have not only sold out of this material but are unable to buy anymore as the producer in South Africa has gone out of business which is a huge upset to me personally as the producer was by far producing some of the most rich and vibrant materials I have ever encountered.
I did thankfully keep a bottle back for myself and want to write about this now purely for reasons of nostalgia.
First of all, how fantastic is the name! Also known as lions tail, which is due to the orange flower humorously resembling that of a lions ear with a feel apparently similar to the lions ears velvety lobes. This material is also known as wild dagga and the plant thrives in full sunshine ideally among rocky slopes growing throughout South Africa all the way north towards Kenya.
The aroma of the essential oil is herb garden and bright floral fresh with lots of delicate citrus, and warm cola and hop infused nuances throughout. Lions ear is produced by steam distilling the orange coloured flowers, light yellow in colour and of a pourable viscosity. Regarding uses I do not know the oil well enough but I find it to be a very pleasant aroma on my aroma diffuser and within the limited reading material I could obtain it is said to be useful for treating skin irritations including eczema. A material I am really happy to have experienced and I hope one day to be able to offer it again at Hermitage.”
