Eleonora Scalseggi has this to say “At long last we are happy to announce we now offer a gorgeous Saffron Oleoresin. As you will be already aware, saffron is obtained from the tiny thread-like stigmas of the beautiful lilac Crocus sativus flowers. It goes without saying it takes a lot of work to produce a single kilo of saffron, making it the most valuable spice on the world market, whose value by weight is even greater than gold itself!
The oleoresin extracted from the spice can be therefore considered the very definition of luxury.
Perfectly pourable and of a cheerful deep sunset orange, this saffron oleoresin displays and magnifies all the most beautiful and powerful notes of the spice. This is a material of great richness and intensity, exuding tremendous warmth, gorgeous leather notes, sapid saltiness despite its light sweetness when smelled straight from the bottle. It imparts a sensuous natural skin effect to perfume compositions like few other materials can.
Unmissable for oriental-inspired perfumes but also used in trace amounts to impart sensuality and a fleeting je ne sais quoi to perfume compositions, this fairly tenacious material can be classed as a base note since it will mainly stay close to the skin.
Perfectly alcohol soluble and partly oil soluble, it is the luxury version of our alcohol based saffron tincture.”
Botanical Name: Crocus sativus
Origin: Iran

What a lovely, pungent saffron this is. Deep, well rounded, spicy and powdery. So potent too. I have made many of my own saffron tinctures and absolutes, and this exceeds the strength of those by far.

Gorgeous material. It doesn’t blend how I expected or wanted it to and less certainly seems to be more in most blends I’ve tried. In cooking, Madame Saffron is often used in tiny amounts below the threshold of obvious perception and I’ve noticed here that a similar effect in perfumery is achieved when used this way, a whispering delightful undistinguishable elegance that you can only just about catch with the nose making the smell addictive with its hide and seek play. I’d love to use it in a more obvious way but it trumps everything so far aside from sandalwood, more experiments necessary!

I am a fan of saffron. I always have Iranian and Moroccan saffron at home. I also have 4 different saffron oils, and this oleoresin is clearly the winner. Great stuff!

Very rich and strong true saffron! It is also a stunning orange red, so use with a light hand – it is amazingly tenacious and can both overwhelm a blend and stain the skin a bit if you go overboard. That said, I so highly recommend this for spice, woods, leather and gourmand accords. It’s strength also makes it a great value for your money. There really is nothing else like saffron!
