**Sultan Red Mysore Sandalwood E.O (2019)
Adam Michael has this to say “What we have here is Sultan Red Mysore sandalwood essential oil. Distilled circa 2019, 6 years aged and the total santalols content comes in at 77%. Logs estimated in the 75 year age range.
The opening notes are very crude woody, cresole, with faint buttery qualities and a spicy sharpness that really wakes you up if you inhale too closely. After about 15 minutes on the strip, the spicy sharpness dissipates, the profile organises itself accordingly, the creamy full fat milky character starts to fire up and the show gets underway properly.
Within 30 minutes on the strip what we have here is an old dry woody x creamy spiced sandalwood profile. Woody qualities of which are in part reminiscent to smelling lacquered antique furniture through to monastery old woody DNA.
And by the hour mark, it is as though we are transported back to the early 1990’s, an era whereby with a little effort you could still put your hands on batches of epic Mysore and not the anaemic corporate age starved 25 to 40 year something sandalwood all the online minions peddle today as sandalwood grails.
From this hour mark onwards you realise that brief window of time was like night and day – what you encounter at the start has gone and now its sandalwood creamy-buttery paradise all the way, with supporting notes of red jelly, deer musk granules and a touch of Assami oud. The profile transformation on the strip within the hour is truly remarkable. At this stage there is zero anything sharp or overly spiced, just wave after wave of the full fat milky goodness nearly all sandalwood lovers crave.
This profile remains consistent on the strip for the next 15 hours in optimal form and from hour 15 to hour 20 I interpret the profile more like that of grounded sandalwood powdery-woody, orris root powdery with a delicate sweetness akin to how old school milk bottle sweets from the late 80’s and 90’s used to taste.”
(Recycled text) Applied to carrier the performance will of course last even longer and this material can serve those creating attars especially well. A great fixative and blends well with all the usual sandalwood suspects, and although already very beautiful, this material has all the hallmarks of a sandalwood that will continue aging like fine wine. Price point is exceptionally good.
Availability is limited and as such this aromatic is not supported with a SDS, IFRA or Fragrance Allergens.
