Adam Michael has this to say “From the strip or the bottle what is clear here is this African ginger absolute packs a much bigger punch aromatically than our Chinese offering. This surprised me.
The aroma is as expected, being completely gourmand orientated and following the same theme as my Chinese material. The top is comparable to the taste that floods your senses when eating candy ginger pieces, super fresh, a touch woody, sparkling green citrus traces, through to rooty warm and finishing with a fiery kick that’s again comparable to drinking ginger beer. After about 24 hours on the strip, the profile is still very much alive, the sweetness has been dialled down a notch, and the fresh, piercing, woody through to rooty components dominate.
This African offering is at least X2 times more potent from start to finish compared to Chinese material (or at least this is the case with this batch), it sings the same song so to speak, but it really makes you sit up and take notice. This is the ginger absolute that simply does everything better.
Sourced directly from the producer. Of a thick but pourable consistency and antique brown in colour.
Below I copy my own content from the Chinese ginger absolute regarding uses –
An incredibly underrated experience, a stunning aromatic that warrants far more love, attention, and incorporation within perfumery, blends like a marriage made in heaven with atlas cedarwood e.o, wild harvested cedarwood absolute, folded citruses, especially orange, lime and mandarins (specifically green and red), cocoa absolute and patchouli aromatics.”

While I do like the Chinese ginger absolute sold here, this African ginger absolute is so much more interesting to me. This one is at least twice as pronounced, and it warms up faster so it is more than just a base note. This is more dimensional as well…deeper and more complex, very smooth, more plush. I like using it to modify leather scents, especially cypriol and mango leaf creations. Also, it is nicely warming on the skin, so I could see minute amounts working well in a massage blend (especially with a cooling Plai and healing helichrysum). A wonderful spice that is so difficult to find in an absolute. You should try both the African and Chinese materials sold at Hermitage, but I suspect this African one is the more prize-worthy aromatic.
