Adam Michael has this to say “The aroma of mushroom absolute is of course intensely vegetative and mushroom like, wet earthy, damp mossy, unbelievably potent seaweed marine fresh, hay sweet and even exudes totally unexpected yet absolutely gorgeous faint dark chocolate nuances and all of excellent tenacity. This material is produced by solvent extracting all of the Boletus edulis plant which you usually find growing in abundance under coniferous species such as spruces and firs. The colour of this mushroom absolute is dark brown and of a thick but pourable consistency. This would be superb with fougere, smoky blends, musk, forest and vegetative accords and deep amber bases. Reminiscent to my nose of the mushroom flavour sachets that accompany Koka instant noodles”

I similarly bought this since I was interested in replicating a formula I had seen. I love that this earthy scent that is purely an earthy vegetal scent. Smells like the richness of damp topsoil in a damp forest with a mushroomy richness. Love it!

This mushroom absolute brings back memories from childhood holding and smashing mushrooms between my fingers. Remembering the wet earth, meaty, earthy aroma in those moments. This absolute fresh on the strip brings in aroma of steak cooked rare, autumn leaves covering wet grass, dark chocolate melted down for making homemade chocolate bark, home-brewed mead fermenting. At the dry down, you smell the forest–moss covered rocks, soft hints of that mead, topsoil full of mycelia, and oud. On the strip the smell lasts for DAYS. On the skin this absolute has a staying power of at least 8 hours. Definitely the perfect addition to any forest accords.

It’s warm liquid syrup…actually it kind of reminds me of Steen’s liquid cane syrup…almost like molasses, there’s something in here that makes me think of iron or some mineral that I can’t put my finger on. It’s sweet, damp, very vegetal, slightly balsamic to my nose, and I’m quite curious to experiment with this little one.
