Adam Michael has this to say “I first received a sample of this rose bourbon absolute around March 2019 and now as I type it is 21st October 2019. During this time, I have layered this aromatic onto my skin many times and constantly unscrewed the cap to have a sniff as I work in the office. It has somehow become to me, like that of a comfort blanket for a young child. A material that soothes and intrigues me, enabling my mind to wander so far, to a place that takes me away from my deep rooted worries and not so good life experiences, a place of absolute calm within.
So what does rose bourbon absolute smell like?
Well, from the bottle you are hit with the aroma of slightly warm, vibrant rose petal notes, a really pungent jam note that reminds me of biting into a warm Jam Roly-Poly, lots of honey sweetness, rose scented jelly, a tart rosehip fruit punch and a distinct vegetal note that reminds me strongly of the smell of artichoke.
As time progresses you also get more, dewy musk notes that I have only ever encountered within our pink rose otto and from smelling living musk roses in my garden. Plus you have this powdered bed of geranium effect going on as well with ghost traces of cinnamon spice and sliced green apple. It is utterly compelling for me and I have never ever evaluated such a multi layered floral material to date. Plus it is so jumpy, and bright in the top and even has notes reminiscent of smelling freshly made apricot jam, not the rubbish from the supermarket, just real homemade apricot jam, the stuff that’s so dreamy you eat it with a big spoon and it makes all your worries in the world ease away. I really appreciate complexity within my aromatics and in this regard alone, what we have here is god like material in my opinion. It is also so saturated throughout I find. This material lasts around 5 hours on my skin and for over a week on the strip, deep orangey amber in colour and produced via solvent extraction of the flowers.
Now, I have to add, Eleonora, who is currently establishing a living rose library in our young garden, appreciates the aroma of this material but does not feel this material evokes anything overly rose like. We have had much debate about this material for the past months. And we have found a mutual understanding, that should you expect this material to smell like the classic rose absolutes many of us know and love, such as Moroccan, Turkish, or Bulgarian rose absolutes, then this material is 100% NOT for you. This material is not classic rose at all, not a little bit, not ever.
This is a material that can complement and impart floral qualities into rich masculine driven scents of a woody, incense and spiced floral orientation. Blends well with materials including oud, sandalwood, patchouli, red champaca and jasmine sambac.”

Amazing stuff.i really don’t understand why i didn’t order it with my first rose order to experience something different and oriental..its like roses, red wine, honey and spices blend together and create a beautiful jam ..its not the fresh sharp rose you get from essential oils or the warm deep strong honey Rosy beauty you get from other absolutes but its a real gem that after the above anonyone can appreciate ufcourse. You need to have this now..its a creation of exceptional beauty..

I am not sure what to say in order to describe this material…but it is wonderful. It is rich and earthy, but sweet and sultry at the same time. It definitely has a powdery effect that is similar to rose absolutes but different at the same time. There’s something magical about this material and therefore I mix it with rose absolute and rose de mai as it pairs quite nicely with the other roses. I agree that this is NOT like a traditional rose absolute or rose otto at all – but it is worth trying as it is very useful in rose and other floral compositions.

When i first opened a bottle containing this bourbon rose absolute i immediately smelled a fresh morning air – ozone – unbelievable !
Applied on a blotter it opened to me with a soft rounded, powdery and balsamic notes to reveal after a while an apricot mixed with honey and butter as well as green biter aroma that i really love a lot.
Anyway this rose is quite a mystery to me and it is so hypnotic that i can’t stop smelling it.
I love roses and this one is among those that i fall in love forever.
Natures masterpiece – a must have in a perfumers palette.

The sheer orchestral impact of this rose is a masterpiece beyond comprehension. An olfactive invasion of such complexity, dynamism and seductive allure without consent. To me it is like the full range of what a Rose is meant to smell, taste and feel like. Opulent, Dewy, Fresh Apple Crisp. A deep multi-dimensional aromatic vortex.

Ok wow, I’m speechless. This is definitely not like other roses. It is beautiful, rich, complex. When you smell it, you know its rose. But it’s not like the powdery florals like some of us are used to.
I’m trying to think of the correct words for my initial reaction… it was juicy. I was almost tricked into thinking it was edible. This rose has a gentle lightly sweet fruitiness – yet it still maintains some sort of strong rose character.
Normally, I need to pace myself with florals. Little wiffs and then take a break. But with this stuff, I was drawn in and buried my nose into the strip. It was so delicious. This has a very gentle-strong presence. It softly overpowered every scent I had nearby. I mean buttery soft. Yet it did it with such rich deepness. Amazing stuff.

I couldn’t stop having this bourbon rose after knowing that it was one of our dear Adam’s favorite oils. And yes, Adam has the best taste: this rose has been a real discovery. What a joy to witness this rose. The smell of roses that we already know is an indisputably beautiful smell, but perhaps a too beautiful smell. This bourbon adds nuances and textures not usual in the rose: earthy, resinous, dark honey nuances. In that sense, this is a less flat, more complex rose. It is one of those lines that connect the sky with the dark depths of the earth.

One of the most unusual Rose absolutes. It’s like a savant in it’s Rose family, unmistakably Rose, but “cool”, with so many extraverted elements – artichoke aroma is very evident, but not in harsh way but rather supporting the profile complexity, a gem

Oh my—this is the scent of the leaked ~juices~ that flow from New York City’s dumpsters into the street…on a hot summer day…where they boil on the pavement and evaporate. Which, somehow, is a beautiful and nostalgic scent for many, including myself, because sniffing that dumpster juice also means you’re in NYC in summertime, which means life is great (especially if you’re only visiting and can eventually fly back to somewhere where air conditioning is standard in every indoor area). My, my, my, there’s nothing like the smell of the city, is there?
…unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on where you stand), not everyone is like this. So there’s definitely a time and place to whip this rose out! But if you’re the type to not give a damn what others think of your penchant for enjoying strange materials, even ones that bring to mind NYC’s dumpster juice, then pour with abandon! You are trash! You are free! Life is great!

Old-fashioned rose smell. Sepia if sepia was rose-colored. Luxury potpourri sold along Rue Saint-Honoré, if such a thing exists, in the best possible way.

Wild Enchantress’ Beauty – piquant, moody and stirring – like a charged air before the thunderstorm, it opens with ripe shades of blooming jungle – dewy greenery and earthy zest. Breathe it deeply and you’ll be taken to the untrodden path in overgrown ancient gardens full of murmurs and hidden nooks…
As it breathes on, gourmand liquor-confiture notes fleet in and out, intermingling with mossy grasses’ tones. This Rose simultaneously quiets the mind and intrigues the senses – to the hypnotic effect. I see it in seamless embrace with all the ‘exotic jungle mood’ essences like Ouds, Kupang Sandal, green Vetiver Royal, Jasmine auriculatum and Wild Narcissus.

This is a great material, if you want to introduce a fresh floral rose-like touch in your perfume without dominative or even pronounced sweet-rose note, low in damascones with their plum-, ripe fruit-, honey-like profile.
When I ordered it, I just had my Turkish rose one week dried on the blotter. I figured out, that this bourbon rose smells almost the same: fresh, green, cinnamic, like a dried out roses, but is mush more pronounced and saturated, with facets of violet and lily of the valley.
Indeed, unique material.
