Skip to contentAdam Michael has this to say “The top notes of this cedarwood Texan essential oil are characteristically woody with a wonderful sweetness and gentle smoked-spice undertone. The heart notes make me think of Hiba Wood and Hay, (minus the dry aspects of both) with a faint hit of chocolate paste. The material lasts for a good 16 hours on the strip and towards the very end I also detect medicinal trace notes.
Cedarwood Texan essential oil is produced by steam distilling the heartwood, golden yellow of colour and of a completely pourable viscosity. Overall this is a very mellowed, smooth and truly beautifully bodied material. Artisan produced in the USA and used within perfumery it blends very well with most woody notes, is useful for building tobacco and forest accords, interesting material within patchouli bases as it adds a warmth and intensity to the woody back notes and also this material is a must for building woody-oriental perfumes as it really does pair so well with patchouli. Very highly recommended material.”

Texan cedar wood along with Hermitage’s atlas cedar are absolutely stunning. A must have for any perfumers organ.

The smoky facet is definitely here, although tamed by the classical woody body of this beautiful oil. It does not have this pencil shaving smell that I dislike so much. Instead, it has a strong “masculine body”. @Adam : it makes indeed a beautiful pairing with patchouli, I would however add your Vetiver org South India as a qualified partner. 😉

I am going to repeat Jarreau’s take on this, Hermitage has somehow landed the best quality Texan Cedarwood I’ve come across. I have tried T. Cedarwood oil before many times because it’s inexpensive and sold by many suppliers (here in North America), but this is different! This is a sweet, full-bodied, yet delicate oil with animalic undertones (civet?) you may expect in Himalayan Cedarwood. It makes common version of Texan Cedarwood seem like industrial varnish by comparison.

When I smelt this I was taken back in time to when I was a child. My dad works with wood and used to bring me along when he would go to pick up a load of lumbar. This is a beautiful, deep, rich, and broad cedar. It has a dry character yet still a pleasant sweetness. Smoky with a touch of spice. I feel energized, relaxed, and grounded when I smell cedar like this.
