Adam Michael has this to say “The aroma of cedarwood Virginian essential oil is Autumn forest fresh, dry-woody, mild, incense woody, ambery sweet with somewhat of a leathery and fine woody-vetivert character.
Useful for sandalwood blends, earthy accords, rich amber bases, and building the woody notes within vetivert compositions. A must for masculine colognes and a good fixative. Golden yellow in colour, of a oily but pourable viscosity and produced from the waste wood by steam distillation.
For the therapist Virginia cedarwood is highly antiseptic and with great astringent properties it is useful for treating oily skin. The active principles include cedrol, cadinene and other sesquiterpenes, and several terpenic hydrocarbons. Virginian cedarwood essential oil could be considered to help relieve muscular tension and used in the treatment of arthritis and rheumatism. All types of cedarwood essential oil have been used extensively to ward off insects and rodents. Cigar boxes used to be made of cedarwood for this reason. Great buildings (including Solomon’s temple) used cedar not only because it continues to exhale its fragrance for hundreds of years but also because it is less liable to attack by insects.”

The description on this oil is perfect, it’s exactly as described. This is fabulous in mixes for muscle pain and stress. A cedarwood that is well worth adding to your mixes. Thank you! Adore!

When i smell Virginia cedar wood i feel at home because my mother uses trivets made from small round pieces glued together to form an under pot trays, and when i was a child i used to scratch those pieces to get a brighter scent. Actually is a juniper tree and has a very beautiful structure inside its trunk.
Usually almost everyone describes it as a pencil shavings and yes i do detect the note, but for me it smells more like an old precious furniture in an ancient library or a cigar box, or a huge hall in a museum with old tables for exposition of works of art stored under a thick glass.
It opens my lungs with its persistent tenacious, woody, balsamic, fresh, dry notes – for me it is one of my favorite wood.
Top Top Top 🙂

This EO truly smells like pencil shavings!
While a bit quirky, this fragrance could add a very nice layer to a woody base.
It reminds me of the smell of an old Mexican furniture store in Taos.
