Skip to contentAdam Michael has this to say “This Civet Absolute is obtained from Indian material (not African), collected from the secretions of the female and male civet cats. The material is a solid waxy mass, golden brown in colour which quickly becomes pourable with gentle warmth. The initial aroma is overbearing, raw, vile and slightly faecal. However, well diluted the aroma of civet absolute is entirely different, displaying musky, smoky and heightened sweet animalic notes of sublime tenacity that in trace amounts will add soft velvet, animalic and musk qualities to many perfume bouquets.
This material rarely appears for sale as a true natural, I think at the time of writing (06/10/2015) we are the only business offering this online within Europe, which is largely because most perfumers choose the synthetic substitutes, entirely animal friendly and more cost effective compared to the natural, but unfortunately not on par with the real thing.”

This civet absolute is absolutely stunning. Alone it’s fecal, but it gives a powerful effect to any blend after dilution, making it more “multi-dimension” in a positive way. As little as 0.005% in a perfume, you can smell the difference.

A must for any floral attar.
Also, more cruicually it lifts up all the top and middle notes in any concoction. I can literally now smell all the subtle notes even in a very complex and powerful attar I made.
Caution: One needs to be very careful with it though. Just a trace amount (say a pinhead/paperclip amount) is more than enough for a 3ml amount. If you let your attar age, it will make it even better.

I bought synthetic civet just to understand what is this material all are talking about that create miracles in attars and olfactory perfumes… But this real civet absolute is truly Amazing!nothing like the synthetic.i actually find it sweet and musky and smokey..It’s a true gift and worth every effort that Hermitage company offer this to us. Dont miss it.

I would love to stash a larger quantity of this away, it’s absolute magic! What this does to a perfume is phenomenal, it adds multidimensionality, warmth and depth although it does make me feel quite nauseous handing it raw I had to wait a week after diluting it before going back to it.

On the strip it smells like strong soft-ripened sheep’s cheese (perhaps I’m alone in enjoying evaluating this material undiluted? ;D ) There is a creamy sweetness behind the more cheesy and animalic aspects that I find quite charming, in its own raunchy way.
Blended, it’s something else entirely! It’s as if it creates a frame or context around which all other scent notes POP and are elevated. It adds dimensionality and character to most accords, heightening their presence and making them feel more alive, in the literal sense.

How to describe this..? I have the synthetic version, and it smells nothing like real deal. The synthetic one does smell terrible i have to say. To me, this absolute does not really smell fecal or disgusting at all. It almost smells like rancid butter, very intense. Must dilute and use tiny amounts, but glad i got this. I will never use the synthetic one again.
