Adam Michael has this to say “For the past weeks, on and off, I have been evaluating this Green Patchouli Absolute. I can say with certainty I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment studying this profile and its many intricacies.
This is a bonified gold 10 out of 10 standard patchouli absolute obtained from Indonesia and the level of refinement is exquisite and something you would honestly associate more with European produced Patchouli absolute.
The brightness in the opening is outstanding with both cellar effects, pretty floral tonalities and ripe tropical fruit themes all in equal measure. Sitting underneath you find both earth, leather and woody qualities akin to heavily aged wooden furniture. And this is all finished with a minty – almost spearmint – effect that is present at all stages as this absolute develops and plays a key role in why I also associate this absolute with that of a countryside walk after rainfall on a slightly cold windswept morning – think gravel paths through to walking in the woods near a natural waterfall.
(Within the e.o of patchouli – if the minty facet is present, it usually signifies the batch is relatively young and with time and ageing, my findings are the minty facet dissipates, however fortunately with absolutes this is not the case.) Within the profile I also pick out a lot of trace gourmand effects, think nougat, hazelnut, liquorice, vanilla coffee and raisins. Possibly only for me, but I find some childhood aromas here too in the form of glazed chocolate apples and milk bottle sweets. Yum.
The fruity components have a somewhat cocktail vibe that my brain associates with the fruity structure of Davana essential oil with the addition of juicy pear and Lychee soda drinks.
After about 2 weeks on the strip Id also like to note a peculiarity that at least for me, I find a note within the cellar scent that reminds me of smelling Crayola crayons and of which in turn makes me think momentarily of smelling living blue lotus flowers, more so because these somewhat hard to define floral touches within this patchouli absolute are still present and would be akin to what you would pick out from smelling living blue lotus flowers too.
This patchouli absolute material is produced by alcohol washing of the concrete, of a gloopy but pourable consistency and although marketed by the business in Indonesia as “green” patchouli, the colour is brown-green to my eyes. If this is green, then army green colour would be a better description I think.
Uses, as you would expect, a superb fixative and a must for Oriental, Chypre, leather, tobacco and also woody accords. Blends wonderfully with roses, jasmines vanillas, citrus – especially orange, bergamot and mandarins. Plays great with sandalwoods, benzoin, labdanum, oakmoss and vetivers, violet leaf and so on. Highly recommended to everyone in the world of perfumery.”

Jamal S (verified owner) –
This patchouli absolute offers a very rich profile with gourmand nuances leaning less cacao like many patchouli oils and rather in the realm of maple lactone, but at the same time having an aromatic aspect expected of patchouli. Remains very dense and characterful in the dry out, more so than an oil. The top note will not suit all compositions, but I find it so far best suited in ambery and oriental formulas. As advertised this is intensely coloured, I find its ability to quickly colour a concentrate as effective as say, a seaweed absolute. In dilution, it is a gorgeous dark green.
