Adam Michael has this to say “This French hay absolute is olive green to brown in colour, of a thick but pourable consistency that could benefit from gentle warmth prior to use. This absolute is produced by solvent extracting the dried French grasses of Hierochloe alpina. The aroma is chiefly all gourmand throughout, pronounced coumarinic notes, sweetened mate tea, clary sage herbaceous with a gentle rainbow of sweet honey, plum jam and cocoa qualities. Completely alcohol soluble, the best hay absolute money buys, and without question, 10 out of 10 material.”
Arctander has this to say “Hay absolute is used in perfumery not only in “new mown hay” bases, or in combination with flouve, melilotus, tonka, woodruff, deertongue, etc., but also as an individual note to be introduced whenever a truly herbaceous-sweet undertone is required: in lavender, fougere, chypre, colognes, tea-notes, tabac-notes, forest notes and various bouquets.”
Botanical Name: Heirochloe alpina
Origin: France
Alcohol Soluble: Yes
Wholesale weights (all prices excluding vat): 100G = 400 Euros.

This absolute actually took me back to my childhood home in Kentucky, USA. I am delighted even removing the cap. It’s like smelling a summer afternoon in the Southern US. Sweet tea, hay pollen, and the scent of rural earth grabbed me and pulled me back to the bottle time and time again. Will be wanting more of this.

Agree totally with the previous review and the description, I keep checking when will it be in stock again – to grab a sample at least. Freshly mown grass drying in the sun, haystacks in the summer time, mixed with sweet chamomile tea, a little bit of chocolate with added crispy caramelised sugar and chestnut honey – all trapped in a bottle, readily available to enjoy. Awesome.

This is the best Hay Absolute i have smelled, lasting many many hours on the testing strip, to me this smells like raisin bread, a wonderful material to use in many different styles!

– This super thick molasses and syrupy like extract begins with a sweet honey like smell.
– Compared to the Austrian EO (bought from here), it is more rustic and powerful – also more animalic (but in a beautiful way), with a dark chocolate facet.
– If mixed with with sandalwood (Santalum album), it adds a beautiful musky tone to it.
– It is perfect to use in anything to impart a herbaceous, sweet undertone – e.g,, in fougere, chypre.
– It can help as a building block for notes of tea, tobacco, dark forests and various floral, resnous, incense, ambery compositions, and to extend oudiness.

Truly wonderful hay note and so realistic! Living as I do in rural Somerset just a dot on a tester invokes bright bales being bundled up.

I just received this absolute by the mail and i gotta say, from all the other products that were part of this order this one stands out the most. It has an insanely strong first impact, with notes of marzipan, chamomille, dry grass and warm earth hitting you like a freight train. It is overwhelming at first, then giving space to a multifaceted sweet hay aroma which is still pungent but much less agressive. It goes out with subtle green tea, dry wood and wheatfield notes. Definitely the best aroma I have come across yet. It is an orchestra of aromas. A masterpiece.

This is wonderful! I wish I knew what to do with it beyond the fougere genre as its just so luxurious, in a sweet barnyard kind of way. This one smells less dirty than other hay oils I’ve had before and it’s so sweet in the dry down too

Such a beautiful combination of sweet, fresh barnyard with a bit of chocolate. I also get a touch of cinnamon. Fantastic!!
