09/10/20: Looking through the paperwork I confirm the prized santalol content stands at a staggering 90%. Mind blown. This is absolutely insane if you consider the vast majority of S.austrocaledonicum offerings will never exceed 70% in this day and age.
Adam Michael has this to say “So it is official, my name is Adam Michael and I am a Sandalwood addict. I introduced India Gold on Christmas Day 2019, and that was the moment that I deep dived into nectars of the most stunning sultry head turning creamy delights, I had ever experienced with a bottle of Sandalwood. Then comes along Sandalwood Musk four months later and I once again declare my unconditional love and buy the entire production. A material that is slower to start up, more classically structured yet overall puts out a better performance, throws in lots of musk and gourmand aspects and is just pure wow. So good you can smear Sandalwood Musk on your forearms and it grants you up to a day of soul calming Sandalwood pleasure, and although a recent production, the wood used is at least 60 years of age, so just imagine the potential regarding how that beauty will age, a sandalwood for the gods.
Then I’m having a discussion with a new producer and am told I need to try their current batch of Sandalwood E.O (S.austrocaledonicum) and how my mind will be blown my its unrivalled beauty, how applied to skin I will be staggered by how bright it is, how long lasting it is, and so on and so on. Ok, I’m sold I say, let me sample and I’ll be the judge!
You know how this story goes, I try, and I am indeed wowed and no words will do justice to how impressed I am but I will try, that feeling of excitement, of wanting to tell the first person you see how incredible your discovery is, an inability to stop smiling because you are consumed by excitement and happiness, almost like being a child, the night before Christmas, unable to stay still, or to fall to sleep because the morning cannot arrive soon enough, so that you can rip open the wrapping paper that stands between you and your presents. It is all of those types of emotions when you smell this Vanuatu Sandalwood. And it does not matter how old we are now, we all know these emotions and they still reside within us.
Aromatically, what we have here is Sandalwood E.O that provides instantaneous joy, off the charts bright by comparison to our other Vanuatu offering, far more energetic, jumpy, turbo charged throughout. The smooth woody aspects are so rich and concentrated, creamy aspects yes but this has a cleanliness about it with an almost lemony floral DNA finish about it, not piercing, not lemon citrus per se, yet still delivering that cleansing bright citrus and especially lactonic creamy infused floral type sensation upon your senses, as though you have walked within the garden of paradise. Applying 0.1 g to my forearms I get slightly over 9 hours of wear and via the strip this lasts for weeks.
Many despise the idea, the very notion of essential oils being considered as an art form ok, yet for me, what we have here with this batch, is just that, aromatic art, so compelling, emotionally charged and beautiful throughout. A material that makes you muse as much as it calms and relaxes, deepening your appreciation and understanding for all that is beautiful within this world. Yes I can hear myself, yes no matter what I type I will always have the critics jumping down my throat without even ever trying the materials I offer.
To sum up, this Sandalwood essential oil is the holy grail of Vanuatu Sandalwood offerings, one of my greatest ever aromatic encounters and now it can also be one of your greatest aromatic experiences as well. You will never ever find a bottle of Vanuatu Sandalwood as good as this and I think this will also surpass expectations of the many connoisseurs among you. The easiest and quickest 10 out of 10 ever awarded, and I afford my sincerest gratitude to the producer for this otherworldly steam distilled Vanuatu Sandalwood essential oil.”

A bright, clean, diffusive (for a sandalwood), spicy opening. Right after some woody aspects, a bit pine resinous with dry fruits. Less creamy than other sandalwoods. Maybe I would call it a patchoulicious sandalwood.

10 out of 10 indeed!! Amazing sandalwood..hermitage store doesn’t stop suprising us with true gems every time..for a reason i detect a clear fresh soft note behind the richness and the warmth of its creamy velvety musky power .i wear this oil on my forehead and i feel like I’m expanded into a higher dimensional level of creation..for me sandalwood, oud ,vetiver are aromatics from a higher level of appreciation and especially this material is of exceptional beauty..

I’m by no means a sandalwood pro but this sandalwood provides an extremely valuable contrast to the spice and incense heavy varieties. This sandalwood vanuatu signature gold exudes highly prized santalol with crystal clear clarity plus all the addicting nuances of true sandalwood. It is exceptionally smooth, warm, creamy, and piercing with subtle fresh grass and incense notes on the dry down. A perfect touch for ultra high quality compositions that require clarity, subtlety, and refined elegance.

My opinion of this fragrance completely coincides with Adam’s incredibly colorful description. This Sandalwood Vanuatu Signature Gold E.O is simply amazing! It is less “hard” than the classic Mysore sandalwood, but these warm creamy nuances are not comparable to anything. This is real liquid gold in a bottle. It takes time to feel all its depth and versatility. And I’m still thinking about what components should be used in the composition, so as not to overshadow this delicate beauty. Such an oil requires very careful, thoughtful handling, it requires companions who will emphasize all its magic.

I’ve been looking for a Sandalwood for a summer-oceanic theme this one seems like the strongest contender yet. That’s not to say its only good for one thing. I find this to be exceptionally versatile. It has the backbone characteristics we expect from a Sandalwood, yet I’m detecting a pleasant tart or possible citrusy note dancing in the background. I’m excited to see how this continues to perform.

This is a clean and well-rounded very-high-santalol essential oil. It is very useful as base imparting gentle warmth and sweetness, conjuring up images of golden oil – very fitting given its “gold” designation. It has just the right amount and perfect balance of pine-resinuous, sweet, and slightly fusty notes. After about two hours, the sweet and fusty notes merge to become more creamy, and the pine-resinuous note becomes a hint of lime – all layered on top of dry wood. From there, it becomes ever creamier. After nine hours, it is almost powdery, but still retains its warm, “golden” wooden charme. This then lasts basically forever on the strip. Primarily looking for very-high-santalol content in a sandalwood oil would be a futile ambition. If we wanted, we could use almost pure santalol via isolates, and call it a day. Therefore, a good sandalwood essence needs to be more than that, distinguishing itself by that little extra character and magic of a wholesome natural material, without getting in the way of creating the perfume that we want to create. This one delivers exactly that, superbly. It has an excellent smell profile, maybe the most plain-vanilla, yet fantastic sandalwood. It’s clarity is excellent, with no noticeable potato-crisp, spicy, nutty, rancid or insecticide-like notes. This is my default sandalwood whenever no special characteristics are called for. Perfectly easy to work with, and actually almost colorless, given its high santalol content. Most importantly, it is actually available for purchase at this time.

This is my second buy of this sandalwood. I absolutely love it. The citrus-like notes are incredible and this has become a staple to my collection – I reach for this more than any of my other sandalwoods. Thank you!

Creamy, smooth, deep, typically sandalwood, but at the same time light, fresh, sporty, elegant. Normally, it takes a while for sandalwood to fully unfold its scent, but Vanuatu starts with its freshness and energy from the very first minute. Long lasting with a lot of power.
Just enjoy

Noble Wood embodiment – while velvet-smooth and soft, it demonstrates ‘juicy’ depth of character, charming with its bittersweet interplay of textures, flowing between fresh and antique, dry and misty, resinous and powdery (nothing dusty). Sometimes it smells like golden autumn, sometimes like balmy summer. I imagine this Sandalwood scent as a central point of Mandala, supporting quietly and giving sense to everything, while effortlessly balancing all the facets of its Beauty – I’m just echoing the others.

This sandal is perfect. The bitterness of the fire flows into soft suede.
A purring cat sitting comfortably on a chair. Dry wood.
Delight!!!
