We now provide this material in a 50% dilution in alcohol. The end result, is a perfectly soluble and ready to use aromatic. We decided to offer this pourable dilution due to the fact the raw material can take over an hour via bain-marie to become pourable. Thank you, Adam : )
Joseph Colbourne has this to say “Black pepper absolute has dimensions that will surprise those who are accustomed to the high-vibration, fleeting punch of the essential oil. This has much more depth and character. It opens with the expected sharp, peppery notes but with leathery yet savory-sweet, mildly floral, agrestic sensations. As it dries in five to fifteen minutes it gets warmer, almost mossy, marine-like, animalic, deep, nuances of tobacco, hay, continued leather, and the beginnings of an oud complement. There’s also marked tar-like and cade-like characteristics.
This heart is surprisingly complex: eugenol tones, freshly crushed black pepper berries, barnyards, old leather, peppery oud. These persist into the base with the freshness waning into a smoky, dirty oudy-mossy, leathery, peaty profile. This would be superb with agarwood, smoky blends, oriental accords, leather accords, deep amber bases, tobaccos. A pleasure to experiment with!”
Mark Evans has this to say “There are two main differences between black pepper essential oil and this black pepper absolute from Sri Lanka. The first and most obvious is that whereas the oil is clear and mobile, this absolute is a thick black tar and will need warming and softening before use. The smell also is more sweet, tar-like, smokey and leathery than the oil, while still remaining true to the fresh spicy smell of the dried pepper berries. In natural perfumery, pepper oil and absolute give interesting effects in carnation and rose bases, in Oriental fragrances or in modern, dry-aldehydic bases, ambres etc.”
Botanical Name: Piper nigrum
Origin: Sri Lanka

If you want to experience a very different notion of the black pepper you may have in mind when you think of black pepper, then, by all means, do yourself a favour and discover a full-bodied, near meat-like, mildly spicy, rounded buzz of a spice note. I’m so happy I discovered it.

This one is so fun to play with! A true fresh-ground pepper scent, without the sharp camphorous notes in the essential oil. Spicy, fresh, and deep.

Black pepper absolute is so very different from black pepper essential oil- which is high, pepper scratchy, top note.
This is deep, sweet- the other side of black pepper. It adds a layer of complexity with out overwhelming, it is long lasting , and has light silliage. Most importantly for me- it will be easy to use, an easy material to play with, because it will pair with woods, some florals, sea breeze, berry, so it will be fun.

Strong aroma, fresh and spicy, bitter and sweet, I love how it mixes up with woods, sparkle them.

It has not been mentioned yet, but this amazing absolute has quite a smoky aspect. Nothing like the smokiness from vetiver, birch or cade but still quite present. Super lovely and multidimensional material : peppery top that soon gets enveloped in an opaque smoke. Careful because the smoke layer is only a ruse to stab you with more spices. Less of a mess to work with than labdanum absolute but I’m pretty sure if you drop this on your shirt it will never come off

Surprisingly complex and deep, a complete departure from the EO, without losing the qualities that make the EO great. An absolute must-have material with many possible applications from primary base note to special effects modifier. I’m looking forward to continued explorations!

This is no ordinary one-note black pepper…
In the past I’ve always found black pepper to be flat and boring, but this product has much more in terms of complexity and overall beauty.

In 2020 I happened upon this absolute at around the same time as I tried Sana Javeri Kadri’s Aranya-sourced black pepper she sells via her spice brand Diaspora Co. And I’ll sound like I’m being dramatic when I say this next part, but the dramatics are so warranted: they changed my life (er—at least my cooking and my perfumery, respectively) in no small way. I’ve been the most massive @$$ about only tolerating good pepper since: no crap allowed here! Bc now I know better—and when you know better, you do better. And you also evangelize to others about how they can do better, too. So buy this black pepper absolute. Now. And throw whatever trash black pep material it is you’ve currently got away. (You won’t want it anyway once this arrives!)
